St. Alban fountain

The St. Alban Fountain is the youngest of the three large fountains in Basel. Its origins date back to 1489, when the Lindenturm tower on St. Albanrheinweg was rebuilt. The fountain system supplied 16 public fountains and 54 private fountains between "dr Dalbe" and "em Fischmärt." The spring water came from the Haas Spring and the tunnel located between the Lindenturm and the Hirzlimühle. This tunnel was used to convey the spring water to the pumping station and from there to the reservoir at St. Albanvorstadt 81.

The tunnel and reservoir remain in their original condition and can be viewed on a guided tour.
