Forum Bachgraben
The city is landscape!
In the Swiss-French border landscape, town and country meet in a transition zone between Basel-Stadt and the municipality of Allschwil (Basel-Landschaft). Urban and rural are brought together in a reconfigured juxtaposition. A new life science cluster is emerging here. What will the future knowledge landscape look like? How can nature and architecture be interrelated in support of a sustainable quality of life? The Bachgraben area will become a testing ground for climate-friendly building on a large scale. Contemporary spaces combine economic and ecological cycles with exceptional quality. Where do the horizons of climate-neutral building lie? How can new sustainability standards and an expanded understanding of urban landscape be jointly conceived and planned. The urban condition becomes a networked system of ecological, economic and social forces. From parkland to energy and mobility concepts, the post-fossil city seeks to be envisioned and elaborated from a climate-friendly, landscape-based perspective.
